Haggen Announces John Clougher as New CEO

Press Releases

Bellingham, Wash. (August 15, 2014) – Haggen, Inc.’s Board of Directors today announced that John Clougher has been hired as chief executive officer of the Bellingham-based grocery chain. Clougher will join the company on September 8, 2014.

Clougher brings more than 30 years of related grocery, retail and specialty food experience to the position. Most recently, he served as the CEO of Andronico’s Community Markets in the San Francisco Bay Area. During his tenure with Andronico’s, he guided the company through significant changes including a major reorganization. Before that, Clougher was the Northwest regional president for Whole Foods Markets, serving Washington, Oregon and Western Canada. His time with Whole Foods Markets spanned more than 11 years. He has also worked with Natures’ Heartland Markets and Fresh Fields Markets.

“John is the ideal leader to help us further establish Haggen as the premier grocer in the Pacific Northwest,” said John Caple, a member of the Haggen board of directors. “His diverse skill set encompasses the grocery and specialty food industries with deep knowledge of the Pacific Northwest grocery landscape. John has lead successful ventures with specialty food retailing opportunities that focus on higher-end, fresh and differentiated products –which is exactly where Haggen’s strength and future lie.”

Clougher’s hiring follows a series of announcements over the past year from Haggen about their continuing progression to strengthen the grocery chain’s competitive position in the Pacific Northwest. Specifically, the company has focused on their Northwest Fresh concept, showcasing its continued commitment to bringing homemade quality, sustainable values and genuine service to the local communities in which it serves.
