Winter Cheese Pairings

Artisan Cheese

Feeling a little cabin fever with all this Northwest winter weather? If relaxing by a roaring fire is your only escape, we’d advise making room for these cheese pairings, crafted by our Artisan Cheese Specialist, Darcie, from our Ferndale store. Cue the Bing Crosby vinyl.

Champignon Cambozola and Pears

When in the mood for something creamy, Cambozola is a perfect combination of Camembert and Gorgonzola blue cheese—hence the name. This rich and creamy cheese is great for people who are not particularly fond of a strong blue and its triple cream is even more luxurious when served on a slice of pear with nuts. Beneath its bloomy white rind are streaks of tangy blue. Have guests coming over? Make this combination extra special by drizzling raw honey over this pairing. It’s popular all over the world as an after-dinner cheese course.

Fromager d’Affinois and Tazo Earl Grey Tea

Feeling pulled into the rush of this holiday season? Take an afternoon break and rejuvenate while enjoying this pair. Feel your stress slowly slip away while enjoying the contrast of fragrant black tea and the creaminess of soft ripened d’Affinois. This full bodied tea cuts through the smooth textured, extra buttery cheese and the crème in the cheese draws out subtle floral characteristics in the tea.

Landana 1000 Days Aged Gouda and Mt. Baker Distillery Apple Pie Moonshine

Take the chill off with this warming combination. Mt. Baker Distillery’s Apple Pie Moonshine is a festive blend of apple, cinnamon and spices. Drink it neat or over ice but be sure to have chunks of Landana 1000 Days Aged Gouda on hand. The butterscotchy notes of this cheese work particularly well with the warm spices in this liquor. It’s like having dessert in a glass.
